Kevin Nicastro, AYT, Advanced Year Therapist

Kevin is an advanced year therapist enrolled at the University of Maryland Baltimore. His clinical focus is the treatment of substance use for which he was awarded a fellowship from the University of Maryland School of Social Work.

Kevin has prior experience working with both adolescents and adults. He has volunteered for organizations in D.C. and Maryland working with youth in foster care providing mentoring, community building, peer support, and adoption services. Additionally, he has 13 years of experience working as a mentor for adult men struggling with substance use, process addiction, low self-esteem, relationship struggles, career challenges, and depression. These experiences have taught him the value of empathic listening and the benefits of community.

Kevin emphasizes building trust with clients by creating a non-judgmental and safe environment. He believes that a strong therapeutic alliance is necessary to improve well-being and affect change. He views clients as the experts on themselves and believes they are their own best agents for change. His therapeutic approaches include Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychotherapy.

In his free time, Kevin enjoys hiking, weightlifting, gardening, and playing the piano. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter and occasionally tackling a project in his old farmhouse.
