Dr. Ella J. Hong studied biomedical physics followed by her medical degree at Wayne State University. She stayed there to complete her general psychiatry residency until coming to join the National Institute of Mental Health to seek further training in the field of behavioral endocrinology focusing on women’s mental health. She is part of various research areas that study reproductive endocrine-related mood disorders such as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder and Perimenopausal Depression.
Dr. Hong works with adults individually. Along with providing comprehensive psychiatric care, she has an interest in cultural psychiatry and has worked with various clinicians and community advocates to help understand various morphologies of depression in young Asian women and to help seeking treatment when necessary. Dr. Hong strives to provide personalized treatment for adults seeking psychiatric care in a safe and confidential atmosphere.
