Sarah Miller, LICSW

Sarah is an independently licensed social worker in DC and VA and is currently able to see persons who reside in DC or VA via telehealth.

Sarah is an openly queer and polyamorous therapist with a special interest in partnering with polyamorous persons or couples or anyone who may considering this relationship style. Sarah works with individuals and couples who may be working through questions/challenges/fears/insecurities related to this relationship style while also celebrating the joys this lifestyle can bring. Sarah is open and affirming to all gender and sexual expressions and provides a safe and friendly space for persons who identify with the kink community.

Sarah has specialized interest and training in working with persons who have experienced trauma, experience dissociation, and/or family of origin issues. For those whom this applies, Sarah works with people to prepare them for the work of trauma healing. Sarah utilizes evidence-based practices such as EMDR and Ego State Therapy to effectively bring relief from years of suffering following traumatic events.

Sarah has generalized experience working in many areas such as persons reckoning with divorce or separation, death of a significant person, persons experiencing shame, chronic depression and anxiety and persons experiencing challenges with interpersonal relationships and emotional regulation.

Sarah’s approach to the therapeutic space is a warm and welcoming environment for persons to examine previous life experiences and ways they may impact current life functioning. Sarah is compassionate, genuine, and honest while at the same time offering areas for challenge and growth. Sarah partners with people to examine current patterns, symptoms, and problems which are contributing to current distress and together with her patients to develop a holistic plan for healing.

As your therapist it is helpful for Sarah and you to develop a set of goals and objectives you would like to accomplish during your time together. If this is something you are still trying to figure out, Sarah can relate to the position of knowing you need support but not quite knowing what you need in order to feel better. In these cases, Sarah will work with you to triage your concerns and distressing symptoms and develop a comprehensive plan to address your needs.

When not in session, Sarah enjoys staying physically active and spending time with her family and two cats.
