Austin received his master’s degree in clinical social work from University of Maryland, Baltimore. While in graduate school, Austin was part of the Substance Use Disorder Intervention Fellowship (SUDIF) cohort, which provided him with specialized clinical experience for behavioral- and substance-related addictions. His undergraduate education background is in psychology and studio art.
Prior to joining the Healthy Foundations Group, Austin worked with clients in sober-supportive housing who were receiving treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. In this role, Austin provided individual and group therapy services to clients receiving PHP, IOP, and OP levels of care for substance use disorders.
Austin’s clinical approach is one of warmth, trust, and support. He focuses on the quality of the therapeutic relationship as a springboard to other goals created during the therapy process. He pulls from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and psychodynamic approaches to assist clients in utilizing helpful thought patterns, increasing positive behavioral changes, and improving well-being.
In his free time, Austin enjoys cooking, working out, reading, and making new art.
