Lauren Ratner earned her master’s degrees in social work (MSW) and public health (MPH) from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and History from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
Lauren joins HFG following a 20-year career in public health focused on increasing access to and quality of primary, mental, and oral health care – with a focus on the DC area’s underserved populations. Lauren’s work in public health has provided her with a profound appreciation for how community- and system- level factors affect a person’s emotional and physical well-being.
Lauren’s goal is to establish a safe environment for her clients to understand, celebrate, and challenge themselves as they navigate through experiences and relationships. To do so, Lauren relies on her compassion, curiosity, humor, empathy, and humility. Lauren is also a member of the Heartwood Program’s Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) team.
Lauren’s background makes her best-suited for working with young adult and adult clients of all backgrounds and identities – recognizing that she has everything to learn about each client’s unique experiences of the world. Lauren sees clients both in-person
and virtually.
Lauren is conversational in Spanish and has lived and traveled extensively in Latin America and Africa. At present, her travels mostly involve wandering the hills and valleys of parenthood.
