Ashkan Katirai, PMHNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner
Ashkan Katirai is a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is dedicated to working with clients in providing care for various conditions, including depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, grief, and psychosis. He recognizes that it can be difficult, intimidating, scary, and vulnerable to talk about your mental health. Ashkan is passionate about destigmatizing mental health and considers it a privilege to address clients’ psychiatric needs to help them become the best version of themselves. He utilizes medications and/or non-pharmacological therapeutic interventions to create a holistic care plan for each client. Ashkan prides himself on creating a non-judgmental, trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming safe space for all his clients.
Ashkan received his 1st Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech, 2nd Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Drexel University, and his Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. Ashkan has the unique experience of working as a Registered Nurse for several years in psychiatry before working as a Nurse Practitioner. As a Registered Nurse, Ashkan has previously worked in numerous settings, including inpatient psychiatry and emergency psychiatry, and has collaborated with the consultation-liaison psychiatry team. Ashkan was awarded the Board of Directors Scholarship for his contribution to psychiatric nursing at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Conference. As a Nurse Practitioner, Ashkan has worked in the partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, and inpatient psychiatry. His experiences working in diverse settings allow him to appreciate multifaceted presentations and break them down into approachable treatment regimens.
